"Kōpa'a"
PennHip .47, .46

OFA Thyroid, normal
clear of the long hair gene
Kopa’a is an AKC Grand Champion and is an International
Champion. She achieved her Canine Good Citizen at
9 months old. She has recently achieved her
Beginning Novice Obedience title and Rally Novice
titles. She is a big, showy girl with a
forward personality. She likes to be the star. This same
personality trait translates into what I believe to be
an excellent working temperament: she acknowledges your
authority, but given permission she will gladly take
control of the situation. If I found myself in dicey
circumstances, I would want Kopa’a with me. There is no
doubt she would have my back.
Kopa’a has very good proportions, structure, and
movement. As mentioned, she is large, just under the
breed standard maximum height of 26” for girls, and is
very athletic. She has a beautiful red coat with lots of
pigment and no white. Her pigment not only gives her a
full and dark mask and ears, but she also has an
endearing “ink dip” tail. We suspect that there may be
quite a few “ink dip” tails in this litter!

CH, IntCH Ursa Major's Ben Tangaval, TT, CGC
"Pohaku"
Hips: OFA Good
Elbows: OFA Normal
Meet Pohaku, the once and future king! I cannot express how
thrilled I am to announce that our next breeding, in Summer of 2014,
will be AKC Champion and International Champion Ursa Major's Ben
Tangaval TT CGC "Pohaku" x AKC Grand Champion and
International Champion Wild West's Ke Kpa'a 'Ula O
Kia'i Pō CGC "Kōpa'a."
Pohaku passed away in September of 2009 at the age of 9 years and 4
months. Since you won't have the chance to meet him, let me try to
convey something of who he was. Pohaku was a charmer par excellence,
an instinctive protector of children and small dogs and puppies (and
his people), a nurturer, a marker (we didn't call him "the P-Dog"
for nothing...), a talker and a singer, a poacher of apples, a king
who would humor the aspirations of other dogs, a magnet to children
and infinitely tolerant of them, and...
a wise judge of character.
What to expect from this litter? Bullmastiffs of good size, correct
type, and excellent physical capability. Pohaku was 26" at the
shoulder, Kopa'a is very close to 26" herself(!). Both parents have
correct proportions, excellent angles (yes, the boy's rear is a bit
overextended in this pic, but trust me on this... the judges loved
his butt), and good movement. Actually, no, I lied: Pohaku had the
best movement maybe ever.
What to expect from this litter? Very real working bullmastiff
attitudes. Both parents have somewhat "forward" attitudes:
independent, gregarious, good-natured. And intelligence. Pohaku was
very bright (in that bullmastiff paradigm where intelligence is
expressed in service to motivation), and Kopa'a is quite certainly
the most intelligent dog we have ever had.
What do we expect from potential owners? No push-overs. These dogs
will not have fear and they will want to do things their way.
Potential owners who have not had bullmastiffs before will need to
convince us of their steadfastness in the face of great charm,
intelligence, and stubbornness. Steadfastness means no giving in,
and no lashing out. Of course thou SHALT fully socialize and
obedience train these pups, as with all bullmastiffs. And thou shalt
love them, and keep them close.

We bred
her to Woody (BISS GCH Hollywood, AOM)
Award Of Merit, Westminster
2012
OFA hips, Good
OFA Cardiac, Normal
Clear (2 copies of the short coat gene)
Woody is an AKC Silver Grand Champion and Best In
Specialty Show winner with 2 Awards of Merit at
Westminster. He has, in the past, been ranked as the
Number 3 bullmastiff in the United States. It is easy to
see what the judges like: his proportions, structure,
movement, and everything else is about as close to
perfect as I’ve ever seen. Though he’s not a tall dog,
he is well within the breed standard at 25-1/2'”. His
temperament is happy and very even-keeled, nearly
unflappable. Woody is an excellent dog to have around,
he exemplifies the “big buddy” spirit that we love in
this breed. It is sincerely an honor to have Woody for
our Kopa’a’s stud.
We have very high hopes for this litter. These are
wonderful, excellent traits to bring forward into this
next generation of bullmastiffs. Breeding dogs carries a
deep level of responsibility, but it is a joy when we
can meet that responsibility with a litter of this
caliber!
